My Life Story

I was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone on September 29, 1923 to the late Shadrack & Juliana John (nee Frith).

My father was a quiet fellow. He loved books and was an avid reader. He was always seen with his pipe in his mouth and a book in his hand. I was told that before I was born, he had an accident in his job and later had to find another job. He worked at the Cable and Wireless and when he had the accident and could not use his right hand, he practiced writing with his left hand. He was a storekeeper at G.B. Ollivant and was nicknamed Mr. Honesty because he was honest to a fault.

There are numerous organizations formed by student from a common Secondary or tertiary educational institution to help their alma mata, but little attention is paid to kindergarten and primary schools, let alone institution for physically and/or mentally disadvantaged students. These often-neglected institutions are where strong educational foundation can be laid.

Mama Jones, as I usually call her, was a remarkable woman who graced this world for over a century, with love, wisdom, resilience, and quiet strength. Throughout her life, she was a quiet force of strength and grace. She walked humbly yet left a lasting impact on every life she touched. Among her many contributions, one stands out as a shining example of her heart for others, her dedication to teaching Sunday School at Warren Memorial Church.
